Ambidextrous Drawings S2 #3
In the second part of the Ambidextrous Drawings series, AlAraifi’s continues his exploration with the two-handed drawing technique, this time focusing on the harvesting of palm trees. Bahrain was once famously known as "the land of a million palm trees"; however, due to rapid urbanization and development, the natural palm tree groves have been significantly reduced in favor of man-made structures. This series consists of three works, each featuring an earthy color palette that transports us to the landscape of early 20th-century Bahrain. The repeating palm trees that fill the compositions speak to their flourishing abundance during this time and serve as an icon for a country deeply rooted in its past. Additionally, the artist's decision to use locally made palm tree paper is a subtle yet effective extension of the subject matter.
