Amani Althuwaini Kuwaiti / Ukranian, b. 1989

Amani Al Thuwaini’s Kuwaiti and Ukrainian heritage profoundly shapes her exploration of identity and culture. Through an interdisciplinary approach, Al Thuwaini weaves together personal and collective narratives, using symbols open to varied cultural interpretations. Her work often highlights where identities intersect, revealing behaviors and rituals that are commonly overlooked, with a particular focus on themes of luxury and socio-politics in Kuwait and the Gulf region.

Utilizing mixed media and two-dimensional forms, Al Thuwaini seeks to expose cultural collisions, integrating references to modernism, superficial display, commodity fetishism, and gender. Her works candidly respond to the commodification and transformation of traditions, creating hybrids that reflect a globalized interpretation of rituals and customs.

Works by Amani Althuwaini have been consigned by Hunna Art Gallery and included in Bawa's booth at Abu Dhabi Art, 2024.
