Alymamah Rashed is a visual artist whose surrealist paintings explore the layered discourse of her body, combining the physical and symbolic elements of the traditional thobe, to create a “third space” that transcends cultural boundaries. This concept is rendered in her canvases through a fusion of the fleshed body and traditional iconography, forming complex images that speak to a deeply personal and collective experience.
Drawing inspiration from the work of Algerian modernist Baya Mahieddine, Rashed’s paintings incorporate autobiographical elements, regional folklore, and mundane objects that evoke her environment. Rashed holds an MFA from Parsons School of Design and a BFA from The School of Visual Arts, and her work has been exhibited in New York City venues such as the Czech Center, Parsol Projects, and The New School.
Works by Alymamah Rashed have been consigned by Hunna Art Gallery and included in Bawa's booth at Abu Dhabi Art, 2024.
